Introduction: Ultrasound (US) imaging is widely used in medical procedures. RDC No. 611/2022 and IN No. 96/2021 establish quality control (QC) criteria for US systems in Brazil, including the uniformity test, which is often based on visual and subjective analyses.
Objectives: To evaluate the computational analysis of images from linear transducers based on the method of Horssen et al. (2017) for the uniformity test, considering the effect of acquisition mode and equipment gain.
Materials and Methods: Images were acquired at the Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre and Clínica Sidi using a Konex UN-US simulator. The tested variables included transducer pressure and tilt, with images evaluated for uniformity and gain sensitivity according to Horssen et al. (2017) and IN 96. The analysis in Python applied statistical parameters such as covariance, skewness, and minimum value.
Results and Conclusions: The method effectively identified and quantified image uniformity, showing high covariance averages (22.48) and low Ulow values (-0.43), indicating lower uniformity. Extreme tilt angles negatively impacted uniformity, recommending 90°. Pressure variations had minimal influence. The method proved effective in assessing US image uniformity.
